Amaryllis
Flowers indoors, in the middle of winter.
The stem grows so fast you can see it from day to day, sometimes a few centimetres in a day. Six to eight weeks after planting the flower is there, and it blooms from December into March at 25 to 90 cm. Keep it warm and light to start, and cooler once the bud is there, and it stays beautiful longer.

Plant from October to January, indoors in a pot. Set the bulb one third into the potting soil and leave two thirds above it. Choose a pot with about 3 cm of space around the bulb, it needs no more.
After flowering, cut the spent stem about 10 cm above the bulb, and leave the foliage. Water it and feed it now and then, because through that foliage the bulb recharges.
If you want it to flower again next year, stop watering from September. Let the foliage dry out and put the bulb away cool and dark for eight to ten weeks. Then pot it up again and everything starts anew.
