Hyacinths
You can smell it from the garden path.
The flower cluster is so full it can start to lean over from the weight. Warmth draws the scent out, and it carries far into the garden. They flower in April and May, for two to three weeks, and grow 20 to 30 cm tall.
Flowering month
Hand-selected for quality and size, delivered at the right planting time.
Plant from September to November, 10 to 15 cm deep and 8 to 10 cm apart. Choose a spot in full sun. It grows in partial shade too, but flowers less fully there.
The hyacinth does well in a pot. You can even let it flower indoors on the windowsill, in the middle of winter.
After flowering, cut away the spent cluster and let the foliage die back. Leave the bulbs in place and they will return, though the cluster gets a little looser each year. If you want that same full cluster every spring, plant a few new bulbs each year.
Practical: The bulb can irritate your skin. Wear gloves when planting.
