Food for bees, early and late.
Bees come out of winter in February and find almost nothing then, and after the tulips it goes quiet again. Crocuses and snowdrops fill the first gap, allium the second. Where you can, choose the single flowers, because with double ones a bee cannot reach the pollen.
Crocuses and snowdrops flower as early as February and March, when almost nothing else is open. The allium flowers in May and June, and the little flowers in such a ball open for weeks on end. So there is something to be had for a long time.
If you want to go further into summer, plant dahlias with an open heart in spring. They flower from July until the first night frost, exactly in the months when many gardens go quiet.
Everything for spring is planted in autumn, from September through November. Crocuses, snowdrops and grape hyacinths then come back by themselves every year and multiply.
