Pots & balcony

One pot that keeps flowering for months.

You can plant bulbs in layers on top of one another: the late ones at the bottom, the early ones on top. They grow up past each other, so that one pot flowers for months instead of two weeks. Make sure the water can run out of the pot.

Almost anything works in a pot. Tulips, daffodils, crocuses, grape hyacinths and hyacinths do well there, and allium too as long as the pot is deep enough. A hyacinth you can even let flower indoors on the windowsill.

Keep the usual planting depth for each layer: tulips about 15 cm deep, crocuses 5 to 10 cm. That way two or three layers fit above one another in one deep pot, and it is all on the card on the bag.

Practical: Put pots in a sheltered spot in winter. Hardy bulbs can take frost but not wet cold. Dahlias, begonias and callas cannot take frost at all, so bring those inside in autumn.
