Lilies
Scent that fills the whole room.
Oriental lilies are most fragrant towards evening, they are made for moths. So put one near a window you open at night. They flower from June into August and usually grow 60 to 120 cm, some taller still.
Hand-selected for quality and size.
Plant in October and November, or otherwise early in spring, in March or April. Set the bulb about 15 cm deep and 15 to 25 cm apart. Give it its feet in the shade and its head in the sun. And plant quickly, because a lily bulb dries out fast.
A large pot works too, as long as water can drain from the bottom.
After flowering, cut away only the spent flower and leave the stem with its leaves until it turns yellow. That is what the bulb lives on, and how it comes up again next year.
Practical: Rabbits and voles go for lilies. Plant them in a basket if that is a problem where you are. Lilies are toxic to cats.
